Daily Lessons
  • 5/7: What is Natural? We looked at the structure of common materials to find out what ordinary things are made of, and distinguished among elements, compounds, and mixtures.
  • 5/8: Material Resources (Sorting & Filtering) We learned to sort and filter data in an Excel spreadsheet, in order to find suitable materials for a given job.
  • 5/11-12: Sorting Plastics After reviewing the variety of plastics and learning about their structure, we used density data to develop a plan for sorting mixed plastics in a recycling facility.
  • 5/19: Lab_Reports Your report on the Sorting Plastics experiment will be due on Friday, May 22. The Lab_Reports page will give you guidance on writing a formal report! When you are done with the GoogleDoc, "print" it to a PDF, and drag it to the hand-in robot.
  • 5/26: Radioactivity The materials in the world around us are sometimes radioactive. Today we will learn what that means!

Concept Summary
